Biography:

 

Prof. El Mokhtar ESSASSI received his Ph.D. in 1977 from the University of Sciences and Techniques of Languedoc (Montpellier, France) under the supervision of Professor Philippe VIALLEFONT. In 1977, he joined the Faculty of Science of Mohammed V University in Rabat and became a full Professor in 1981 at the same university. He founded the Heterocyclic Organic Chemistry Laboratory and the Moroccan Group of Heterocyclic Chemistry in 1999. He is the investigator of the organization of the National Meetings of Heterocyclic Chemistry (1993, 1996, 1998, 2000, 2002, 2007, 2009, 2011). He was the national coordinator for competence pole Pharmacochemistry created in 2002. He was the director of the Composites Nanocomposites Center of the Moroccan Foundation for Advanced Science, Innovation, and Research (MAScIR) from 2010 to 2019. He is a member of TRAMECH (Trans Mediterranean Colloquium on Heterocyclic Chemistry) scientific committee representing Morocco. He was the chairman of TRAMECH III (Marrakech, 2004 and TRAMECH VII, (Rabat, 2013). He is currently a member of the jury of the aggregation in physical sciences. He is the editor-in-chief of the Moroccan Journal of Heterocyclic Chemistry launched in 2002 indexed in Chemical Abstracts, DOAJ, and Google Scholar, and archived in EBSCO. He was a Visiting Professor at the Artois University (2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011), University of Orléans (2008, 2012) and University of Angers (2012) in France. Prof. ESSASSI was the co-director of NATO-ARW in 2009 ( Detection of Biological Agents for the Prevention of Bioterrorism (Mass Spectrometry)) and co-director of NATO-ASI in 2013 and 2016 (Molecular Technologies for Detection of Chemical and Biological Agents). He does research in Heterocyclic Chemistry, Chemical Library, Mass Spectrometry, Crystallography, Materials Science, Corrosion Science, Medicinal Chemistry, Medicinal and aromatic plants, Natural Products, and Catalysis. Professor ESSASSI supervised more than 120 theses and published more than 800 peer-reviewed articles. He is a member of the Editorial Board of Current Organic Chemistry and Letters in Organic Chemistry, Associate Editor and Advisory Board Member of the Journal of the Scientific Study and Research (Roumania), and Associate Editor of Frontiers in Science and Engineering.
