Biography:

 

Dr. Rahimah has been dedicated to studying the psychosocial elements of ageing and the impact of family support and formal service provision on older people. Her experience in care-related research projects is extensive, including areas such as the development of filial piety module for preschoolers (UNESCO), psychosocial dementia care (University of Sydney), comparative studies on care relations among Asian countries (Kyoto University, Japan), filial responsibility among female undergraduates in different Asian societies (Tokyo Women's University, Japan). She has also received grants from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the World Bank for her work in the aged care sector. She is presently concentrating her research efforts on understanding social frailty among older Malaysians and challenges of dementia caregivers, working alongside a multidisciplinary and multi-university team from private and public universities to address cognitive frailty. Dr Rahimah's contributions have gone beyond research. She has also explored the structure of facilities and services required to meet the needs of an ageing Malaysia in 2030. She has played an integral role in revising the vocational topic of Basic Gerontology and Geriatrics for selected Malaysian secondary schools. Her involvement in revising two major national plans of action on ageing in Malaysia, administered by the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development and the Ministry of Health, highlights her expertise in the field. Dr Rahimah's extensive expertise and experience in gerontological research make her an essential addition to any organization or individual looking to make a positive difference in the lives of older persons.
