Biography:

 

Professor Okyay Kaynak is an Emeritus Professor at Bogazici University, Istanbul, Turkey, and a member of the Turkish Academy of Sciences. He received his BSc (first-class honors) and PhD degrees in Electronic and Electrical Engineering from the University of Birmingham, U.K., in 1969 and 1972, respectively. Following seven years in industry, including a significant period as a project engineer in Saudi Arabia, Professor Kaynak joined Bogazici University in 1979. He has also held numerous long-term visiting academic positions at institutions in Saudi Arabia, Japan, Germany, USA, Singapore, and China.

Professor Kaynak's research focuses on intelligent systems. He has authored three books, edited five, and has authored or co-authored over 450 papers. A Fellow of IEEE, he has made substantial contributions to the society, including serving as President of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society (2002–2003) and as Editor-in-Chief or Co-Editor-in-Chief for several prestigious IEEE Transactions. He currently serves as the Founding Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE Transactions on Industrial Cyber-Physical Systems.

His distinguished career is marked by numerous awards, including the China Friendship Award (2016), the Humboldt Research Prize (2016), a Doctor Honoris Causa from Obuda University, Hungary (2020), and the International Academy Award of the Turkish Academy of Sciences (2020). He is also a Fellow of the Asia-Pacific Artificial Intelligence Association (2023), the Industry Academy within the International Artificial Intelligence Industry Alliance (2024), and the Asian Control Association (2024).
