Place of Birth : Lebanon
Position : Professor, Qatar University, Qatar
Field of study : Molecular Pharmacology, Drug Discovery, Cellular Physiology
Dr. Eid obtained his Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences from the Ohio State University, where he conducted his doctoral (and later postdoctoral) research at the Davis Heart and Lung Research Institute. He had previously obtained his MSc from Bowling Green State University, USA, and his BSc from the American University of Beirut. The main research focus in Dr. Eid's laboratory is the molecular and cellular pharmacology that culminates in drug discovery. Dr. Eid has leveraged his training and experience in cellular and molecular biology to pursue research questions related to alpha 2 adrenoceptors (α2-ARs) in the context of vascular disease. Specifically, the role of the neuronal (norepinephrine), humoral (epinephrine), and endocrine (estrogen and cortisol) factors that govern the function of vascular α2-ARs is of prime importance. In the interest of pursuing a long-term career in pharmacology with a defined and clear path for growth, Dr. Eid has set up a drug discovery program that looks at drugs of natural or synthetic origins. He has over 270 peer-reviewed publications and over 11000 citations. Dr. Eid is heavily involved in teaching medical students as well as graduate and undergraduate level courses, and has garnered several teaching awards. He enjoys reading and writing, as well as poetry and gardening.
