Dr. Sheikh Fayaz Ahmad is an Assistant Professor at Zhejiang University International Business School (ZIBS) in China. He holds an M.Phil and PhD from the Centre for Studies in Science Policy at Jawaharlal Nehru University and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Zhejiang University. His research interests include Alternative Innovation Models, Digital Frugal Innovations, Regional Development, and China Innovation. He is the co-editor of the book 'Informal Sector Innovations: Insights from Global South' (2015) and has contributed to the 'Handbook on Alternative Theories of Innovation' (2021) and the 'Handbook on Frugal Innovations' (2023). His work has been published in journals such as Regional Studies, Oxford Development Studies, and Science Technology and Society. He has also moderated several special sessions on 'Alternative Innovation and Development Models from the Global South' at the Science Summit of the United Nations General Assembly and the Academy of Management. In recognition of his work in documenting grassroots innovations in rural Kashmir, Dr. Fayaz received an award from the President of India at the National Innovation Foundation’s annual award ceremony in 2009.
