Biography:

Dr. David Koh qualified in medicine in Singapore, and completed his postgraduate training in both occupational medicine and public health in Singapore and the United Kingdom. He previously worked in the National University of Singapore for over 25 years from 1985, where he was the Chair of the Department of Community, Occupational and Family Medicine; Director of the Centre for Environmental and Occupational Health Research, NUS, and founding program director of the National Preventive Medicine Residency program. In 2012, he joined the PAPRSB Institute of Health Sciences of the Universiti Brunei Darussalam as its first Chair Professor of Occupational Health. He served as Assistant Vice Chancellor from 2014 to 2018, and is currently a Distinguished Professor of Occupational Health and Medicine in UBD.

Awards: NUS Special Commendation Award for Teaching Development, 2004; Smiley lectureship and medal, Faculty of Occupational Medicine, Royal College of Physicians, Ireland, Nov 2004; 17th Smiley Lecture for 2004 - The Use of Salivary Biomarkers in Occupational Health; Research Excellence Award, 2006/2007, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore; National Skin Centre Distinguished Friend Award, April 2007; Inaugural Academy of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, Malaysia Orator and first recipient of Honorary Fellowship, 26 Jan 2008, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; Wilf Howe Memorial Prize, Faculty of Occupational Medicine, Royal College of Physicians, London, May 2008; Inaugural Recipient for the Outstanding Volunteer Award, Singapore International Foundation, 14 September 2012, (Award presented by the President of the Republic of Singapore); University Brunei Darussalam Teaching Excellence Award, 2014; Lifetime Achievement Award 2017 from the College of Public Health and Occupational Physicians, Academy of Medicine, Singapore, 21 July 2017; Koh and Aw’s Textbook of Occupational Medicine Practice 4th Edition was Highly Commended in the Primary Health Care category for the 2018 British Medical Association (BMA) Medical Book Awards, 6 Sep 2018.

His current research is on occupational health, in particular among health care workers and among aviation industry workers.
