Biography:

Prof. Sulaiman Wadi Harun received the B.E degree in Electrical and Electronics System Engineering from Nagaoka University of Technology, Japan in 1996, and M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Photonics Technology from University of Malaya in 2001 and 2004, respectively. He has nearly 20 years of research experiences on the development of optical fiber devices including fiber amplifiers, fiber lasers, and fiber optic sensors. He also involved in exploiting new nanomaterials such as graphene, carbon nanotubes, black phosphorous, topological insulators for various fiber lasers and sensors applications. He has received about 10 research grants of value over RM4M from the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation. Prof. Harun has published more than 700 articles in ISI journals and his papers have been cited more than 7000 times with an h-index of 37, showing the impact on the community. Prof. Harun also worked as an adjunct Professor at Airlangga University, Indonesia and Ton Duc Thang University, Vietnam. He received a prestigious award of Malaysian Rising Star 2016 from the Ministry of Higher Education for his contribution in international collaboration. He is the Fellow of Malaysian Academic of Science, and also the founder and honorary advisor for the Optical Society of Malaysia.

Current Research and Recent Achievements:

Prof. Sulaiman Wadi Harun is a well-known scientist who works in the field of photonics specifically on optical amplifiers, fiber lasers, and fiber sensors. He has an excellent publication record with more than 700 papers in well-known ISI journals and total citations of more than 7000 with an H-index of 37. Prof. Sulaiman is one of the pioneers of various new research areas such as Brillouin fiber laser, L-band EDFA, microfiber and ultrashort pulses laser generation based on nanomaterials. He was invited by IEEE to be a guest editor for the journal of IEEE selected Topics of Quantum Electronics special issue in Fiber Laser. Based on the number of papers published yearly, he is considered as the most productive and well-known scientist in the field of Photonics in ASEAN countries. In postgraduate supervision, he has also shown an excellent track record with more than 50 PHDs completed under his supervision. In the comment section of Nature journal dated 12th September 2018, he was mentioned as one of the hyperprolific authors, who managed to publish one paper indexed in Scopus every 5 days on average, within a single calendar year, looking at 2000-2016. ln view of his dynamic track record, Professor Dr. Sulaiman was awarded to become a fellow of the Academy of Science, Malaysia in 2019.
