Investors, Important Pillars in Research'

MSTF Media reports:

"There is a need for investors to play a bigger role in research," said Wael Mamdouh Ahmed.

He presented his paper on his project during the session, 'Further Achievements of Scientists from Islamic World in regard to health.

On the sidelines of STEP, there's an exhibition dubbed Exposure of Industries to Scientists' Achievements (EISA), which aims to commercialize new products by introducing them to investors. During EISA, Wael Ahmed is showcasing products based on nanotechnology, ranging from disinfectant, powder, gel and anti-wrinkle cream, including medicine for wound dressing.

"It is very exciting for me to be at the 4th STEP. I was there at the 2nd STEP held in Malaysia. I can see a lot of progress and there are lot of speakers this time. However, it is the first time for me to participate in the [EISA] exhibition," said Wael Ahmed.

He said besides offering him a chance to find investors for his products, STEP is a good opportunity for scientists to show their research to the society.

"We do research but we need to engage with the society. To have someone to listen to what we have is very important for us scientists. We have had some top meetings and I hope some fruitful decisions will be made," he noted.

He explained that Nanotechnology is a state of the art technology.

"It helps us explore new properties. We convert materials from bulk state to nano scale. Nano is a very small unit as it is one over a billion unit. So once these transformations take place, the property will be completely different," he explained.

Their product is a new technology based on disinfectant converted into Nano scale material made of completely natural material so they do not have any chemical additives compared to the conventional commercial products.

"It is the laborers who use mainly the chemical disinfectants which are harsh and they often develop asthma and skin problems," explained the scientist.

He described investors as "important pillars in any industry." In scientific research, he thinks there is a need for even more investors.

"Most of the investors like to be in the comfort zone where they deal with soft technology for example development of applications.

But when it comes to research, some investors are skeptical to enter this area, however the turnover maybe much more than the applications and the kind," he concluded.
