Teamwork and cooperation has to be increased among Muslim scientists

In the panel discussion that was held in Tehran University of Medical Sciences on Sunday November 10, 2019, six scientists discussed the importance of science and technology in Islamic world and shared their strategies in order to increase cooperation and networking among Muslim scientists.

This panel included Mohammad Abdollahi as the moderator as well as Naim Akhtar khan, Zulkifli Idrus, Rassoul Dinarvand, Yusuf Baran, and Ugur Sahin.

Naim Akhtar Khan, professor at Burgundy University, stressed the importance of teamwork and mentioned that the first drawback is a lack of teamwork among scientists. According to Akhtar Khan, improving teamwork is the first step in success. Akhtar Khan further pointed to the culture of curiosity among young generation. Curiosity as a vital element can improve collaboration and team working among Islamic countries.

Yusuf Baran, full professor at Izmir Institute of Technology, Faculty of Life and Natural Sciences, emphasized the importance of adaptation and collaboration in scientific fields. Baran further pointed to the importance of leaders and knowledge as two consequential levers. He mentioned that leaders must become true international leaders by the help of wisdom and that partnership is a key strategy in developing collaboration.

Ugur Sahin, a distinguished researcher and professor from Turkey, who is the founder and CEO of BioNTech AG, stressed the significance of funding in Islamic world. He mentioned that Islamic countries must increase their funding for it paves the way for scientists and scholars. Sahin further pointed to the connection between knowledge and usefulness and asserted that knowledge must be taken in order to boost this usefulness.

Zulkifli Idrus, researcher in animal stress biology and welfare, emphasized the importance of ecosystem. He mentioned that there is no right ecosystem research and this is a huge gap in the field of science and technology. He pointed that we must find the missing peace. This missing peace is a sensitive issue among scientists in Islamic world.
