Dialogue and Public Cooperation Are Conspicuously Absent in Science Communication

10 Nov. 2019

MSTF Media reports:

Abdullahi Saleh Bashir, as a participant in “Public Relations as Science Communication” STEP Talk, elaborated on the substantial benefits that Public Relations (PR) can offer to both science and science communication.

According to him, “the bottom line of PR is to create understanding and knowledge, establish mutual trust, and plan action programs.”

Referring to the importance of science communication, he stated that “science affects everyone in the society, but, of course, not many people understand science, because it can be too complicated for the society.”

“Poor communication on the part of scientists and institutes has caused a gap between scientists and the society,” he added.

In the end, Saleh Bashir contended that despite the promise of science journalism, dialogue and cooperation which are irrefutable benefits of PR, are conspicuously absent in science communication.

The 6th round of Science and Technology Exchange Program (STEP) in Islamic Countries was held simultaneously with 2019 Mustafa(pbuh) Prize Award Ceremony in Iran. Science Communication was one of the main focuses of attention in this round of STEP.
