ROS detector system: Electrical probing of COVID-19

28 May. 2020

Mohammad Abdolahad, the 2019 Mustafa Prize laureate from Islamic countries, stated that "Real-time tracing of COVID-19 is possible through Fresh Sputum by Electrochemical Tracing of Viral-induced reactive oxygen species (ROS) in Lung/Respiratory Epithelium during the Coronavirus pandemic."

According to Abdolahad, "ROS detector of sputum sample (RDSS) is a simple electrochemical sensor with Nanostructure that selectively detects the intensity of ROS in the sputum sample just in 30 seconds."

"It is integrated and fast because of modern electrical boards," he added.

In the study conducted by Abdolahad and his team, three to five hundred people were tested from various hospitals in Iran. During the clinical trial, two hundred fifty people with no symptoms were tested.

Abdolahad stressed that "the designed ROS detector system is not a COVID-19 detector, because it detects material in the sputum of patients, who are then referred to COVID-19 specialists."
